Claims by the Conservative Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council that he has frozen Council tax but Parish Councils have put their portion up has been condemdned in the local communities of North Warwickshire and by Parish Councillors from across the Borough.
The claims, made in the Leader of the Council’s taxpayer funded letter that accompanies the annual council tax bill have been condemned by the Labour opposition and heres why;
The Borough Council made a political decision earlier this year to not pass on the parish council grant that the Govenrment gives to the Borough Council for each parish. In doing so, it left Parish councils without this source of income and it in turn has resulted in some parishes having to put up their portion of Council Tax to cover the loss.
Labour’s Group Leader, Councillor Adam Farrell said;
“The Conservative Council Leader is trying to pull the wool over local peoples eyes. Yes, the Borough Council has frozen Council Tax but has done so by scrapping the money paid to Parish Councils. We then pay more because Parish Councils have to increase their council tax to cover the money taken from them.
“This is another example of our Conservative Council trying to push the blame on to other people. Whenever anything goes wrong its never their fault but the reality is, their track record speaks for itself – cuts, cuts and more cuts.”
