Budget_2017.pngTwo days after the budget, The Tory MPs for North Warwickshire and Nuneaton have failed to put anything on their website about the budget. Normally the MPs would be defending the Budget within minutes.  The Chancellor’s proposal to increase National Insurance for the self-employed, in breach of the 2015 Conservative Manifesto promise has rendered them embarrassed and silent – so far. Now that the Prime Minister has climbed down within days and said that the tax hike for 2m people will be withdrawn from the Finance Bill and there will be no vote until the autumn, the MPs have been given a chance to

Cllr Adam Farrell says, “The two local Tory MP’s have been shamed into silence. What can they say?  Would they say they welcomed the chance to break their manifesto promise?   Would they say they would vote to raise taxes on the self-employed?  Philip Hammond has made every Tory MP out to be a liar.

“The Prime Minister has now said a vote on the tax hike will be delayed. Maybe they can say something now?”

The former Labour MP for North Warwickshire, Mike O’Brien, agreed, “I’ve never seen anything like this. It is unprecedented for Tory MPs to refuse to defend their own Budget.

“This Chancellor was stupid to put a broken manifesto promise at the centre of his Budget. Every Tory MPs must be livid and embarrassed. The Budget unravelled immediately and we have now seen the fastest climb down in history. What a cock up?

“I actually feel sorry for these Tory MPs. They have been left with nothing to say; so, for days they have said nothing.

“Philip Hammond has shown by his Budget that he is unfit to be Chancellor. He is just not a safe pair of hands.”
