A decision on the future of Arley Sports Centre’s future will be finally made at a meeting of North Warwickshire Borough Council onWednesday 29th June.
The meeting will see Councillors debate the recent consultation on the Centre’s future and will end in a decision on whether Arley Sports Centre should be closed.
Labour Group Leader, Cllr Adam Farrell said;
“Firstly let me pay tribute to the work of the local residents who have been campaigning to keep this Centre open. They have worked tirelessly to raise funds, deliver leaflets and to get 4500 people to sign their petition. Although this proposed closure is terrible news for North Warwickshire, we can all be proud that communities from across the Borough have come together in such a way.
On the issue of Arley Sports Centre, the Labour Group have always been clear, we will vote to keep Arley Sports Centre open. We don’t want to see it closed but we do also recognise that it cannot continue to operate like it currently does for years to come. The processes, systems, marketing, equipment and ethos all need to modernise. We will be making the case for keeping Arley open and then reforming it so that we never end up in this situation again where it is all to easy for the Council to say its not used, costs to much or is about to fall down.”
The Council meeting on Wednesday 29th June begins at 6.30pm at the Council House in Atherstone. The public are welcome to attend.
