Labour in North Warwickshire is calling on North Warwickshire Borough Council to think again about their consultation on the plan to close the Sports Centre in Arley.
Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Adam Farrell said,
“This consultation is a complete shambles. First the Council tried to keep the discussions about closure private, then after resident pressure it was opened up to the public and stated that a consultation will be held.
Now we have the details of that consultation. There are 82 pages of council reports to read and 1015 words of explanation on the Borough Council. This means residents are being asked to read over 10,000 words before they get through to the consultation questions.
Then when the questions that form part of the consultation actually appear they are possibly the most leading questions you could possibly be asked.
It has been stated that the Council has an open mind on the future of Arley Sports Centre but the website now says ‘members are minded to close the sports centre’.
The first questions goes on to ask ‘Do you support the Borough Council’s preferred option to close Arley Sports Centre and save approximately £100,000 per annum by doing so?’
This is not a consultation based on an open mind; it is clearly a box ticking exercise and shows utter contempt for the residents of Arley. The Council should withdraw the consultation, go back to the drawing board and apologise for the appalling situation it has put local residents and staff at Arley Sports Centre in.”
