My name is Andrew Scattergood and I’m a Fire Fighter. I’m also the Regional Secretary of the Fire Brigade Union in the West Midlands.

I want to tell you about Coleshill Fire Station. It’s hit the headlines recently because the Conservative Council at Warwick, supported by your Conservative County Councillors wanted to cut it and reduce the number of fire engines on the site. It would have meant the next nearest fire engine would have taken 17 minutes to reach you. The County Council are already missing their response targets. This proposal to cut Coleshill Fire Station would have made things even worse.

Thanks to opposition from firefighters, the local community and your Labour Candidates and Councillors in Coleshill, the plans have been shelved. We’re not out of the woods yet though.

Since 2010, Warwickshire has lost 50 firefighter posts and the budget being proposed by the Conservatives in Warwick will continue to contain hundreds of thousands of pounds of cuts to the Fire Service in Warwickshire.

That’s why we have to keep up the campaign to ensure Coleshill Fire Station and our Fire Services is protected from cuts. You cannot put a price on the safety of local people.

Fortunately, firefighters are not the only ones who know that cuts to the Fire Service are a really bad idea and I’m delighted to have worked with your local Labour Candidates to do everything we could to stop this ill thought out proposal.

Firefighters will continue working with your Labour Councillors and Candidates to raise these concerns at every opportunity and without their support, defending the second fire engine at Coleshill would be impossible.

But we can’t do this on our own, and we need your help. Please take a moment to complete the form below to join our campaign to support Coleshill Fire Station.
