OFSTED have announced the results of their recent inspection of Warwickshire County Council’s Children’s Services. The inspectors from the independent body have judged that the service ‘requires improvement’ in a damming report highlighting the urgent need for action to ensure the service delivers the high class service young people deserve.
Labour’s Group Leader in North Warwickshire, Councillor Adam Farrell said;
“This is obviously disappointing news. Whether you’re a Labour Councillor a Tory one, no one wants to see this sort of report for Warwickshire. Children’s Services are there to safeguard young people and at the moment, the County Council are being told they need to do a lot better.
“Whilst across the political spectrum we all want high quality children’s services; actions speak louder than words. The report highlights the high work load of social workers and the strain they are under to cope with more cases than they should be.
“The Conservatives have run Warwickshire County Council for over 10 years now. They’ve cut funding to all areas of the Council and now its impacting on children’s services.
“Since the report was published over a week ago, the local Conservatives have remained silent on this, our MP is as usual nowhere to be seen and its little wonder because just a couple of months ago at the County Council elections, the Conservatives said ‘We are investing in more social workers to support children’.
“After more than a decade in control, they are not meeting the standards OFSTED require. This needs to be urgently addressed and I know Labour County Councillors will be working hard to force the Tories into action.”
