Further tributes have been paid following the death of former Nuneaton and Bedworth Mayor Tom Wilson.
The controversial mayor and committed christian, together with his greatly loved wife Sonja, were involved in politics for half a century. They began as Conservatives but in recent years they both joined the Labour Party.
Mr Wilson had had lymphoma cancer for some years.
Mike O’Brien said, “Tom was always passionate about his politics. He spoke out fearlessly, straightforwardly and honestly. You always know where you were with him. I was delighted when he and Sonja joined the Labour Party. They had been strong opponents but quickly became firm friends. Tom was a fighter in politics and against his illness; but he also had a gentle side and had a wonderful sense of humour and fun. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts today are with Sonia and the family.”
