Tory Council gives the green light for the next stage of Local Plan

Simon_Rose_Photo.jpgLabour Councillors have expressed their anger at a Borough Council decision to go ahead and submit the Local Plan to the Government Planning Inspectorate for examination.

Labour Councillors voted against the Local Plan, as they have done throughout the last two years, because of the huge impact 9700 new homes, mainly around the A5 will have on the rural nature of our Borough.

Labour Borough Councillor for Dordon, Jacky Chambers said;

“The Council have totally ignored the concerns of local people that building so many houses in our area will totally destroy village life, cause gridlock on and around the A5, and swamp public services. To say they have consulted local people is rubbish –  they simply haven’t listened to what people have said.

“The worst thing about this decision is that most of the Tory councilors who voted to accept this plan have never visited the three main sites where more than 65% of houses will be built or talked face to face with local people. They simply have no understanding of the impact it will make on our communities in the North of the Borough. Let’s hope that the Planning Inspectorate has more sense. We will continue to fight it at every stage.”

Labour Group Leader, Cllr Adam Farrell said;

“Labour have opposed this plan since the very start. We believe in more homes but they should mainly be in a new settlement where infrastructure like roads, schools and healthcare is properly planned and delivered.

This is a terrible decision which will go down in history as one of lowest points in the Councils role as a Planning Authority .The Conservative Party have chosen to side with big developers, destroying land around villages like Polesworth, Dordon, Atherstone, Ansley and Hartshill without any guarantee of new infrastructure.

“At the hearings held by the Government s Planning Inspectorate, Labour Councillors along with many other organisations will be presenting the case to have this plan thrown out. If Labour win the next election in May 2019, we will scrap this plan.”
