North Warwickshire the biggest loser from Government Cuts

Research published today shows that North Warwickshire Borough Council is facing the largest reduction in public spending per head in the whole of the County and the third largest of any district council in the West Midlands.

Residents across North Warwickshire will see the Council spend £81 less per person as a result of Government cuts to public spending.

Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Adam Farrell said,

“This is a huge cut in the money we have available locally to deliver services and help those in need. It means there is less money being spent on leisure centers, on supporting elderly people, on keeping our streets clean and on making our borough safer.

Make no mistake; this is a political choice, not a necessity. Other areas of Warwickshire, such as Stratford Upon Avon have had just a £17 cut in spending per head. If North Warwickshire had been treated the same as Stratford, the Council wouldn’t even have to think about closing Arley Sports Centre or charging elderly people for Borough Care.

The Deputy Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council has said we have a compassionate Chancellor. That compassion certainly hasn’t made its way to North Warwickshire. In this borough, we are paying an unfair price for reducing public spending.”

In 2011, North Warwickshire Borough Council spent around £341 per person and in 2020 will have just £260.05 to spend per resident, which is a drop of £81.05. This compares to Nuneaton who have seen a cut of £61.10, Warwick where spending has been reduced by £45.27, Rugby where public spending is £22.13 less per head and in Stratford where spending has been reduced by just £17.46.

Yes it should be, the graph doesn’t provide for much space when naming the columns. Similar to Stratford where it should actually read Stratford Upon Avon.

Nuneaton mentioned as losing money, surely it should be Nuneaton and Bedworth losing.
