Your former Conservative Borough Councillor has resigned his seat on the Council and there will be a by-election to replace him on Thursday 23rd August 2018.
My name is Andrew Downes and I’m standing as the Labour Candidate. I’m determined to provide the area I live in with better representation. For too long this area has been the forgotten part of North Warwickshire and that needs to change.
I was born in North Warwickshire and live in Newton Regis. The issues that impact on your life, also impact on mine. Things need to change. We can’t keep going down the same path, because we’ll soon find ourselves as an extension of Tamworth, instead of rural North Warwickshire.
Our villages are being asked to accept around 3000 new homes on our countryside as well as having to deal with the knock on effects of the 5000 homes planned for Atherstone, Dordon, Polesworth and Grendon.
This by-election is a chance to say no to large scale development and no to rich property tycoons getting away with dumping homes here and not providing the infrastructure to go along side. I’m not against new housing but it should be small in scale and come with the money needed to provide additional public services and transport improvements. Thousands of new homes on our countryside, means our villages become towns and that isn’t acceptable to me.
So at this by-election, I’m asking for your support, to protect our countryside and to provide the effective representation our area needs on the Borough Council.
I’m here to fight for our community, to demand the investment we deserve and to ensure we protect our heritage for future generations.
