Labour is celebrating a win in the Bedworth West By Election. The by election followed the death from cancer of County Councillor Keith Richardson shortly after he was elected. On a drizzly December Thursday day, 904 people voted for the Labour candidate, Brian Hawkes, 353 for the Conservative, 46 for the Trade Union and Socialist Against The Cuts and 142 for UKIP. Labour had 62% of the vote.
Brian Hawkes was immediately congratulated by Valerie Richardson, the widow of Cllr Keith Richardson, who was delighted by the result.
The new County councillor Brian Hawkes said,
“I will pick up the banner laid down by my friend Keith Richardson. I will campaign to have the street lights put back on and to get decent services of the people of this area.”
