Hartshill

Local Residents in Hartshill are taking a Judicial Review against Warwickshire County Council, challenging the abject way a planning application was managed and the grounds on which a decision was made.

On January 19th, 2016 the Regulatory Committee at Warwickshire County Council voted to approve the development of an Emergency Stopping Place along Oldbury Road, Hartshill. Local residents, concerned with how the planning process was managed, have taken legal counsel and have applied for a Judicial Review against Warwickshire County Council’s decision.

County Councillor for Hartshill, Chris Clark said,

“Residents are right to expect fairness and consideration from their decision makers. And decision makers should want to be confident they have all the facts.”

“With only one member of the Regulatory Committee acknowledging the 301 individuals, raising multiple areas of concern; the people of Hartshill, Ansley, and Mancetter feel abandoned and distressed.”

“The legal challenge is happening because the County Council have given locals no other opportunity to be heard. They were denied consultation, their objections were side lined, and their concerns were censored during the meeting - leaving valuable local knowledge to go unheard.”

“I have worked closely with local residents and will continue to do so.”

Members of North Warwickshire Borough Councils Planning Board are set to make a final decision on the plans to build a chickenbroiler in Mancetter on their meeting on Monday 7th March.

County Councillor Chris Clark said,

“Monday 7th March is a big day for North Warwickshire. The plans that have been submitted to build a chicken broiler would have a hugely negative impact on the people of Mancetter, Hartshill and surrounding villages. This is something that would drastically impact on the quality of life for local resident’s miles around.

I’ve been firmly opposed to these plans from the start and I urge the Planning Board to reject the application without hesitation.”

Following pressure from the local community and Councillors, the site proposed for Oldbury Road has been rejected by the Borough Council but could still be passed by Warwickshire County Council.

Two sites have been approved by the Conservative run Borough Council - two pitches in Mancetter and four pitches in Hartshill. There is also a further potential site just over the border in Nuneaton that has yet to come forward for a decision.

We are clear; the cumulative impact on our community has been absent from the minds of those in charge at Warwickshire County Council. There has been a complete lack of joined up thinking between the various local authorities and the voice of local people must be heard. Be sure to make your voice heard on this issue.
